Yorkshire Peat Partnership carried out a detailed peatland condition assessment and restoration design funded by a Countryside Stewardship grant. As part of the Great North Bog Initiative, during the summer of 2022 they carried out extensive restoration work across the peatland funded by the Nature For Climate Fund. We continue to work with them on continued monitoring and restoration. As part of the restoration plan Kingsdale Head is one of the intensive monitoring sites managed by Manchester University.

Rewilding Britain aims to tackle the climate emergency and extinction crisis, reconnect people with the natural world and to help communities thrive.

Kingsdale Head is pleased to be supported by independent law firm Brabners, which invested £50,000 that helped kickstart the project to restore more than 400 hectares of important peatland on the farm, as part of its sustainability strategy. Working with Yorkshire Peat Partnership, this is part of a wider four-year programme, the Great North Bog, which in turn is restoring more than 3,500 hectares of peatland and blanket bogs across Northern England.

We are very pleased to be working with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to develop a Landscape Recovery Scheme pilot, The Three Dales project. The project brings together landowners in Kingsdale, Chapel-le-dale and Ribblesdale covering around 2500 hectares.

The Woodland Trust generously funds our comprehensive monitoring program in collaboration with South Lakes Ecology. They also provide us with a wide range of native shrub and tree saplings and advise on our long term regenerative planting approach.

Kingsdale Head receives valuable support from the Yorkshire Dales National Park authority through the Farming in Protected Landscapes scheme. This includes support for creation of a wader scrape, repairs to bridges, funding for wall maintenance and a land management grant.

Business Declares raise awareness across the business sector of the imperative to accelerate action to address climate change, biodiversity loss and social injustice.

Parts of Kingsdale Head are within the Whernside SSSI. We work with Natural England to agree appropriate management for these protected areas, as well as working with the Landscape Recovery team at Natural England on the Three Dales project.

The Yorkshire Rewilding Network aims to bring together anyone in the region who has an interest in rewilding — to inspire one-another, share knowledge and experience, and work towards a brighter, more sustainable future for all inhabitants… be they creatures great or small.
